The Birthday Trap

(or  None of the Writers are Speaking to Each Other.)
There are soooooo many inconsistencies, and so many little subplots in this episode, you have to wonder if all the writers wrote their own little pieces and then stuck them all together.
(The inconsistencies will be listed below.   [:-{)~> )
IF A TOWER FALLS AND NO ONE IS THERE TO HEAR IT...:
The windmill tower makes no sound when it hits the ground.  It must be made of balsa wood.  And why is Little John holding it on an angle when it could just as easily rest on the ground upright like it's supposed to?
     LORD LOCK-SLEY:
Oooooooh, there it is!  There's that lock of hair falling into Robin's eyes, just begging to be swept aside by a woman's hand.  (sigh)
     ROBIN THE CRADLE:
How old is Katherine?  She looks to be twenty at the most.  If Robin left Locksley at 16, then she must have been a child when she was betrothed to Robin.  Not to mention she was still too too young to have been married to a much older husband who died.
     THIRD HUSBAND, TWICE REMOVED:
Lady Tadcaster recognizes the ring that Robin gives her as having once belonged to her first husband, Lord Locksley.  But in a conversation Tuck and Marion have just after Robin leaves for the party they say that Lady Tadcaster brought her children with her to Locksley when she married Robin's Father.  If Locksley was her first husband then she couldn't have come with children from a previous marriage (we're going to assume they are legitimate.)
     GIVE ME A RING SOMETIME:
Robin says Lady Tadcaster gave him his Father's ring after he died.  According to The Legend of Olwyn Robin left Locksley with soldiers on his heels and became an Outlaw shortly afterwards.  There is no indication that he ever went back to Locksley to see his step-mother, or followed her to Lord Tadcaster's.
     CRIMINAL MIND:
Katherine has to ask why Robin left her?  His father was murdered, he lost his home, his property, his prospects.  If that wasn't enough he was declared a criminal!  What woman (besides Marion) would want to be married to an Outlaw?
     WHITEWASH:
It's supposed to be a serious moment, but Robin looks ridiculous talking to Katherine with his ’stache, eyebrows, and soul patch painted white next to his dark hair and beard.
     DIAPER DUTY:
Of course you know that Little John's diaper job won't hold water either if the child moves at all.
     BIG FANCY JEWELS:
Do you recognize the Lady with the really big diamond is Jewel Owen, Matthew's then girlfriend, playing Lady Randolph-Haines.  This time her hair is dyed blonde.  And did you notice that the initials of her character's last name are R-H? (for Robin Hood!)
THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO HMMMM...:
Did Robin just make a humming noise when he was introduced to Lady Randolph-Haines (aka, main squeeze Jewel?)  Naughty naughty, Robin!  You can't have all the women in this episode.
     SHADY CHARACTERS:
Marcella and Graham certainly don't act like brother and sister.  Graham and the jester are fighting in an open doorway.  Why does no one at the party see it?
     SECRET STASH:
The villains grab weapons stashed all over the house.  How did the weapons get there?  Graham and Marcella could not have planted them, they didn't have access to the house before hand.  If they belong to Lord Tadcaster no one could have known where they were hidden.
     TWO-TIMER:
It looks to me like Robin and Katherine are holding hands.  How can Robin be playing kissy-face with Katherine if he's totally in love with Marion?
     NOT-SO-FAST GETAWAY:
For someone who is trying to sneak away quietly, Robin's cane is making enough noise on the stone floor. And the bad guys should have realized that an old man couldn't have thrown himself over the ledge like that.
     GIVE THAT BACK!:
The first woman you see removing her jewelry is a blonde wearing a black feather boa.  You'll see her again briefly.  While a villain tears the necklace off another woman you see the blonde, and she's wearing her jewelry again.
     WHITE ELEPHANT:
Most of the jewelry you see here is so junky you couldn't sell it for .25 cents at a rummage sale.
     YOU FORGOT SOMETHING:
Graham gets the big diamond from Lady Randolph-Haines, but doesn't bother with the necklace it came from.  And he said he wanted everything.
     ONCE A VILLAIN...:
A thug is lured into a trap by a meowing cat.  If you look closely I hope you'll notice he looks just like our old friend, Francisco (The Arabian Knight!)
DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO:
Little John tells Kate to take the kids into the woods.  She didn't take them far, did she?  It's a good thing she didn't either, because everyone else forgot about the tax man.
UPSY-DAISY:
The shot of Robin flying back up onto the pole is actually a shot of Robin jumping off the pole played back in reverse.  It's not possible to land on the pole upright, especially since he's still tied to the barrel which should have pulled him over the other side of the pole and up the wall.
     DYING TO MEET YOU:
Graham-  "Who was that?..... A dead man!"
It seems that every bad guy Robin has ever come up against thinks Robin will be dying soon.  Must be the fact that after Matthew left the series he disappeared, and everyone mistakenly thinks he's dead.  Matthew, if you did another series, or even another movie role (that lasts for longer than 20 minutes, and doesn't involve you kicking the bucket) maybe these rumors would stop.
     WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM?:
Robin- "Give me to the count of three, then go for it."  What is Derek supposed to go for?  And why is Robin ticked off that Derek dropped the plate?  Hey, it worked out eventually, didn't it?
     ALUMINUM FENCING:
I have a really big problem with the way Robin and Graham are fighting double bladed.  I don't know how to fence, but even I know from watching Errol Flynn and Basil (dear old Bazzz...) Rathbone that this is NOT the way you fight with two swords.  Waving them in the air like that just looks silly.
     ONE ARMED BANDIT:
At least in this scene Robin remembers every now and then that he's wounded.  It must be the fact that blood is now dripping down his arm that reminds him.
     ROLL OVER:
Graham falls from the parapet and you can see his body turn so he'll land on his back.  When you see him on the ground he's lying on his stomach.
     BELLY FLOP:
When Rowena fires the arrow Marcella (in mid flight) clutches her stomach.  When Marcella hits the ground the arrow is in her back.
     KISS AND TELL:
Katherine kisses Robin goodbye, and it's a very nice kiss.  Robin gets to kiss everyone, except Marion, in this season, AND HE DIDN'T SAVE ANY FOR NEXT SEASON!!!   Grrrrr........
     ENGLISH GRAMMAR:
Little John-  "... since we built that windmill..."
What do you mean that windmill, don't you mean this windmill?  The windmill you're standing in?  (This was just a tiny little mistake, but it bugs the heck out of me.)

     FINAL SCORE:
I wish someone on the crew had kept track of all the consistencies in this episode and fixed them as they went along.  It was very distracting.  And if anyone is keeping track of Little John's siblings, this brings the count to 3 (Ingrid, the brother in A Price On His Soul, and now Kevin.)
